The artists who make our products in Malawi are perhaps the most talented we have ever found. The timbers are hand tooled, smooth and polished with beeswax. The artistry is of the highest quality. 

The timber used in our board games from Malawi, one of either Ebony, Blackwood, Mahogony, Teak wood or white Sylinga is selecetd and shaped in the bush so as to retain its moisture. From there it is carved and grooved (a process known as"Kutikita") and finally hand polished using beeswax and other local polishing techniques giving it a soft, smooth finish.

Reflecting traditional African values, players of Oware encourage participation by onlookers, making it perhaps the most social two-player abstract board game.

Games may provide a focus for entertainment and meeting others. The oware game, or variations of it 9awale, wari, dakon), also had an important role in education, teaching maths to African children.
