A Modern Classic. Beautiful solid wood game of strategy for young and old.

CATHEDRAL is a two player strategy board game based around a battle for supremacy between two political factions (dark and light) within the walls of a Medieval City.

Ancient cities were confined by walls for protection against enemies but as the population grew the limited space caused competition of another kind. This game represents that competition for living space within the city wall.

The city is cramped and peasants and lords alike squabble amongst each other to find room in the city. Having carved out a space they are not satisfied and continue to take up residence in other unclaimed space available, and so the battle continues!

In 1962 Robert (Bob) Moore was a young pilot in the Royal New Zealand Airforce at Wigram Airbase in Christchurch. During training in Harvard Aircraft, Robert found the Christchurch Cathedral an easy landmark to use as a waypoint during turning manoeuvres and would look down the wing and take a fix on the Cathedral spire.

Flying was his passion and he used to marvel at the tiny buildings and roads which appeared toy-like below. One thing that fascinated him was the way the buildings interlocked so perfectly, like a jigsaw. The memory later germinated as an idea for a new game of various shaped building-like pieces to be fitted on a board by two opposing players.

Easy to learn, quickly played, always interesting, creates a level playing field for parents & kids. Two thumbs up for a great family game."
The only limit in the fun of this game is the skill of your opponent. The better your opponent is, the better your strategy must be, and the more you will enjoy the game!

This year, we bought the game for our house and it's a big hit! What a nice change from battery operated, beeping electronic games that don't challenge your brain skills!!!"
