Abalone has a few easy to understnd rules and yet is a captivating board game that is loads of fun and educational. Abalone assists in the development of Problem-solving and Decision-making skills, it is great for Mathematics but most of all it is a great fun board game for all kids and adults.

• Both players setup their 14 marbles in the same way (there is the standard setup but you can also choose from a number of alternatives or even come up with your own). Black starts (or flip a coin).

• Move your marbles individually or in multiples (in a straight line) of 2 or 3 at a time. Push your opponents marbles (if yours out number theirs) to try to tip them off the board.

To win, you can...

• Be the first player who pushes 6 of their opponents marbles off the board (into the trough) wins.
• Decide on a time limit for the game (say 10 minutes) and then the player who has tipped more of their opponent’s marbles off the board by the end of the time limit wins
