This Fair Trade Product, Damii (known as Draughts of Checkers in the west) is a traditional pastime in Ghana and has been played on the African Continent since around 3000 BC. This beautiful large Cedar board measures approx 55x55cm and is soft and smooth to the touch.
The Damii game board consists of 100 squares and 20 playing pieces each.
The game in Ghana follows the same rules as Draughts. The board is typically played "on the knee" as can be seen in this picture. It is common in the streets of Ghana to see men gathered around a Game of Damii and is often a great social occassion.

Aside from the Polish and Brazilian draughts, the Ghanaian variations are amongst the most internationally acclaimed kinds of checkers being played today.
