recycled eco-friendlyHand carved from Javanese pule wood and includes cowrie shell playing pieces and instructions.

A Fair Trade Product from Java, Indonesia.

The essence of the game (also known as Dakon, Conglak) is collecting as many shells into your storage hole as you can. The win and loss of the game is determined by the number of the shells collected.

Educational. Congklak is not only used for entertainment but also for children as a way of increasing alertness and competence in maths.

These boards are made by a small Fair Trade organisation in Java known as Apikri.

The beauty of this Fair Trade organisation is that it is held together by families. Each family runs a small micro-business which is supported by the organisation collectively.http://www.gamesfromeverywhere.com.au/images/apikri.jpg

As a result, the family businesses are protected from exploitation and doors are opened for productive industry within their communities.
