Bao (Swahili for "board") is a mancala game played in Swahili and Bajun communities in Eastern Africa.

It has a beautiful history and is forever popular among Kenyans. The Bao poem "Bao Naligwa" was written in the 1820s by the Swahili poet Muyaka bin Haji in Mombasa, Kenya.

This is a simple, yet well crafted Fair Trade Board Game from Malindi in Kenya. Hand made from Mkulu wood, a very heavy native timber and finished with traditional black dyes.

The board measures a large 58x52cm when opened and folds neatly on its hinges to hide and store the native Bonduc Seeds which are the playing pieces.
