Hand carved from Javanese pule wood and includes cowrie shell playing pieces and instructions.

The essence of Dakon (mancala) is collecting as many seeds into your storage hole as you can. The win and loss of the game is determined by the number of the seeds collected.

The game is used not only for entertainment but also for children as a way of increasing alertness and competence in maths.

These board games are made by a small Fair Trade organisation in Java known as Apikri. The beauty of this organisation is that it is held together by families. Each family runs a small micro-business which is supported by the organisation collectively.

As a result, the family businesses are protected from expliotation and doors are opened for productive industry within their communities.
